Moody Cow produce a small but exciting line of flavoured yogurts. They offer a high-quality product for the mass market. Moody Cow approached us in need of brand identity, packaging, and the tools to show their ‘mood-y’ character. Each product needed a distinctive look while still fitting within the family line.

The main challenge was to make a yogurt packaging that would stand out on the long shelf of yogurts in any supermarket. Research showed that the category is full of similar looking brands, with most products having an almost equal shot at ending up in the customer’s shopping cart. A white plastic cup with aluminium foil top and over-saturated images of fruit was not an option. The packaging needed to find a balance between fitting within the norm while having its statement look and standout spot on the shelf.

We decided to take advantage to the catchy name Moody Cow and run away with it. We covered the cheap-looking sides of the plastic cup in custom paper sleeves and used them as communication panels. Bold, ‘mood-y’ statements such as “You choc me!” or “I’m berrified!” served as shelf-stopper, while also suggesting the flavour of each yogurt. We balanced out the startling messages of the slogans with a calm and friendly pastel colour scheme.

The stylized cow in the brand identity and the fact that we put words in its mouth (‘How do you mooo?’) served to reinforce the logo. It worked as a mascot and had direct communication with the potential customer. Moody Cow yogurts ended up being a consistent yet distinctively moody line of products that ask directly to be taken, rather than wait to be picked up.
